Abstract：This paper reviews three kinds of abroad ideas about selecting development sites for resorts, and discusses the advantages and disadvantages for the above ideas. By combining the advantages of the above ideas with the research results of domestic tourism experts, the authors definitely put forward that tourist attractions and tourist location are equally important in selecting development sites for resorts. According to the relationship between tourist attractions and tourist location, the authors classify resorts into three types: attraction oriented resorts, market oriented resorts and attraction market oriented resorts, and emphasize the development keys for each type of resorts. In the last, the authors examine the above idea on selecting development sites by using several famous cases.
